How to email your resume: subject line, message and file
Updated 20 October 2026
When you email your resume, you need four things: a subject line that says exactly which job you are applying for, a short message (your cover letter), a PDF with a clear file name, and a tidy sender address. Recruiters get dozens of emails a day, and a tidy one gets opened and read.
What to write in the subject line
The job title, the job number if there is one, and your full name. For example:
Resume: Bookkeeper (job 4521) · Noa Levi
If the ad asks for something specific in the subject, such as the job number only, do exactly what it asks. Some companies sort applications by subject automatically.
What to write in the email
The body of the email is your cover letter: a few sentences about the job, what makes you fit it, and a closing with your phone number. Never send an empty email with only an attachment.
Hello,
Attached is my resume for the Bookkeeper position (job 4521) posted on your website.
I have three years of experience in full double-entry bookkeeping at a services company with about 200 clients, including bank reconciliations and monthly VAT reports.
I would be glad to meet for an interview.
Thank you,
Noa Levi · 050-0000000
How to build the letter step by step: how to write a cover letter.
The file: PDF or Word?
- PDF. It looks the same on every computer and phone, Hebrew and fonts included. Send Word only when the ad asks for it.
- File name. Your name and "CV", for example Noa-Levi-CV.pdf. A name in Latin letters opens without trouble even in older recruiting systems. Don't send a file called "resume new 3 final".
- Size. Up to 2 MB. A heavy file, for example with a large photo, may be blocked.
- One file. Your resume in one file, not in several screenshots.
Before you press Send
- The file really is attached.
- The address is right, and so are the company and the job title, in both the subject and the message.
- Your sender address is tidy: your name, not a nickname from school.
- Send a separate email for every job, not one email to several companies in copy.
When to follow up
If there is no answer after about a week, you can send one short, polite reminder in the same thread: ask whether your resume arrived and whether the job is still open. More than one reminder rarely helps.
And if you apply to many jobs?
The same rules, many times. Yesh Avoda sends every application in a separate email from your personal address on the service, with a subject that includes the job title (or the one the ad asked for), a cover letter tailored to the job, and your resume attached. Employers' replies arrive in your inbox on the service and are forwarded to your email too. More on that: how auto-applying works.
